What Is HLTAID011?

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the nationally recognised first aid certificate required by many employers across Australia.

It gives you the skills to recognise an emergency, provide first aid, perform CPR, use an AED and manage a range of injuries and medical conditions until help arrives.

This is the course most workplaces mean when they ask for a current first aid certificate.

Element 1 Respond to an emergency situation
  • 1.1Recognise an emergency and respond in a timely manner
  • 1.2Ensure safety of self and others
  • 1.3Assess the situation and determine the first aid response
  • 1.4Seek assistance from emergency services and bystanders where appropriate
Element 2 Apply first aid procedures
  • 2.1Perform CPR in accordance with ARC guidelines
  • 2.2Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles
  • 2.3Display respectful behaviour towards the casualty
  • 2.4Obtain consent where possible
  • 2.5Use available resources to make the casualty comfortable
  • 2.6Apply infection control procedures and use barrier devices
  • 2.7Monitor the casualty until handover to emergency services

Your certificate is issued once all requirements are successfully completed.

CPR assessment requirement: You must be able to perform a minimum of 2 continuous minutes of CPR on an adult manikin on the floor. If you have a physical condition that may affect this, contact us before booking.

Yes. HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the current nationally recognised unit commonly known as Senior First Aid or Level 2 First Aid.

Does HLTAID011 include CPR?

Yes. HLTAID011 includes HLTAID009 Provide CPR and HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support.

How long is HLTAID011 valid?

HLTAID011 is commonly refreshed every 3 years. CPR should be refreshed every 12 months in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidance.

Do I need HLTAID011 or a different course?

HLTAID011 suits most workplaces. Childcare and education staff usually need HLTAID012. Remote workers may need HLTAID013. First aid officers may need HLTAID014.
